How discounts are calculated
A discount is the amount taken off the original price. It can be expressed as a percentage of the price or as a flat currency amount. Many stores advertise the percentage, but a fixed-amount discount is easier to compare when prices differ.
Percentage discount
Savings = Price × Rate / 100 Discounted = Price − Savings
Fixed-amount discount
Savings = Discount (in currency) Discounted = Price − Discount Effective% = Savings / Price × 100
Adding tax
Tax is applied after the discount, on the reduced amount. Total = Discounted × (1 + Tax/100).
EX: Original ₹1000, 25% off, 18% tax Savings = 1000 × 0.25 = ₹250 Discounted = 1000 − 250 = ₹750 Tax = 750 × 0.18 = ₹135 Final = 750 + 135 = ₹885
