What the numbers mean

Shannon entropy measures how unpredictable the text is, in bits per character. Ordinary English prose lands around 4.0–4.5; repetitive or templated text drops lower, and dense or randomised strings climb higher.

Flesch reading ease scores readability from sentence length and syllables per word. It is a rough instrument — it cannot tell whether the writing is any good, only how much work the sentences make the reader do.

Frequently asked questions

What does Text Analyzer do?

Word, character, entropy & readability stats in real time. The whole thing runs in your browser tab, so it is ready the moment the page finishes loading.

Is Text Analyzer free to use?

Yes. Text Analyzer is completely free on ToolMunch — no trial, no premium tier holding back the main feature, and no daily or hourly cap on how many times you can use it.

Do I need to create an account or sign up?

No. There is no account, no email address, and no login. Open Text Analyzer, do the job, and take the result — nothing is gated behind a signup form.

Is the text I paste in sent to a server?

No. Text Analyzer runs entirely inside your browser tab, so the text you paste stays on your own device. Nothing is uploaded, which means there is no copy of it on a server to worry about.

Does Text Analyzer work on Mac, Windows, and phones?

Yes. Text Analyzer runs in any modern web browser on Windows, macOS, Linux, Chromebook, Android, and iOS. There is nothing to download or install.

Can I use it as many times as I want?

Yes. There is no queue, no per-hour quota, and no counter that runs out — run Text Analyzer as often as the work needs.
